School Policy & Procedures

  1. A T T E N D A N C E

    1. Students are expected to arrive for lessons at the appropriate time (not too early, not late) with all required materials. Students should be dropped off for their lessons no earlier than five minutes prior to their reserved time and picked up promptly at the conclusion of their lessons. Early arrivers should wait outside (with parent supervision) until lesson time whenever possible.
    2. When a student arrives late for a lesson, the pick-up time should be kept on schedule.
  2. P A R E N T P A R T I C I P A T I O N

    1. While most students are initially excited to begin piano lessons, please be aware that they will face challenges and sometimes frustrations. As initial enthusiasm is replaced by awareness of the discipline and commitment required to attain excellence, your encouragement and praise will be essential to your child’s success.In addition to this, please:-Set aside a scheduled practice time for your child-Supervise home practice sessions and make sure your child completes all assignments-Provide feedback and suggestions for me that will increase the effectiveness of each lesson
  3. S T U D E N T R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S:
    1. -Complete daily practicals
    2. -Be prepared for lesson (with all books and completed theory or other projects)
    3. -Keep fingernails trimmed short (should not extend past the end of the finger) to ensure proper hand position and good technique
    4. -Wash hands before each lesson
  4. M A K E UP L E S S O N S

    1. An absence due to illness or family emergency is excused provided the teacher is notified at least well in advance. If a lesson must be cancelled, parents may notify the teacher by SMS, e-mail, or by telephone. Please give as much notice as possible when canceling a lesson. The teacher is not obligated to make-up a lesson which is cancelled by the student or parent. Any lesson that is cancelled by the teacher will be made up at no additional charge or a tuition credit will be given. As a courtesy, the teacher will attempt to make-up lessons cancelled by the student or parent. Makeup lessons will be accommodated on the teacher’s availability. Lessons that are missed without prior notification to the teacher will not be made up. Make-up lessons will not carry over to subsequent months unless they are the result of a teacher-cancelled lesson

    1. The teacher reserves the right to miss lessons due to illness or professional commitments. However, these missed lessons will be made up. The teacher can hire a substitute teacher or reschedule such lessons.
  6. P R A C T I C E

    1. The piano should be located in a quiet room away from distractions. Students are required to practice a minimum of five days per week and meet the minimum practice time requirement as determined by the teacher.
  7. L E S S O N T E R M I N A T I O N

    1. Students may be asked to discontinue lessons if they have an excess amount of absences, inappropriate conduct or unprepared lessons at the discretion of the teacher. Lessons may also be terminated for unpaid tuition.
    2. One month paid notice is required if a student wishes to discontinue lessons.
  8. T U I T I O N A N D P A Y M E N T

    1. Please contact us for the fee structure.
    2. Payments are made on a monthly basis due at the first lesson of the month. In the event that an excused absence occurs, any pre-paid tuition will be applied toward a lesson in the following month. Students are expected to pay/buy all music books and materials. The teacher reserves the right to raise fees at the beginning of each new teaching year.
    3. Some months may have 5 lessons. However, only 4 lessons will be conducted for the month.
  9. N A T I O N A L H O L I D A Y S & V A C A T I O N

    1. The school will be closed for all national holidays, and for which there shall be no “make-up” lessons or rate reduction.
    2. The school will be closed during April, August & December for two (2) weeks (please refer Academic Calendar 2014) However, students are expected to pay tuition fee as applicable for the month.
  10. O F F I C E H O U R S

    1. The teacher may often be unable to discuss student progress with parents before or after the lesson since other students have lessons at those times. Should parents have concerns or questions, please call or schedule an appointment with the teacher. The most convenient time to reach the teacher is Monday through Friday from 09:00am to Noon at +94 773 419 719. Email messages (shashi@sasensky.com) are encouraged.
