We are a private award winning piano school studio located in a quiet and safe, residential neighbourhood at Mirihana, Nugegoda. Sasensky School of Piano provides students with a rich and varied music education experience. Individual, online and small group instruction is offered in piano to students of all ages and levels. The student of the Sasensky School of Piano has the benefit of outstanding individual instruction, as well as the opportunity to perform in a variety of ensembles.

Sasensky School of Piano has consistently produced prize winners both locally and internationally and train children and young adults for Trinity College London, ABRSM and local western music O/L and A/L exams. If you want to learn music for pleasure with no exams, we encourage that as well! We are also a Trinity College London Approved Teacher Centre. Our teachers are qualified and well experienced.

About Shashikala (Shashi) De Silva
Shashikala De Silva is the Founder and Managing Director of Sasensky SchooI of Piano. Shashi (as she is known) is an accomplished, committed piano teacher with over 12 years of teaching experience. Shashi is an Associate of Trinity College London (ATCL). Shashi is also Chartered Institute of Management Accountants’ (CIMA) qualified. She has been teaching piano lessons to students of all ages and levels and has experience teaching music in private and group settings, including local and overseas students. Shashi is also among the first to master and successfully teach piano lessons online. Shashi has also taught piano at reputed International Schools in Colombo and mentored many Musical Theatre projects. Shashi is a registered teacher with both Trinity College London and ABRSM London.

The teaching philosophy of Sasensky School of Piano is founded on the belief that good musical education comes not just from instilling strong musical and technical fundamentals in students, but also from fostering a true appreciation for the arts. At Sasensky School of Piano, we believe in the power of music — music that builds students’ self-esteem and self-discipline, and that cultivates their creative thinking skills. We take special care to tailor lessons to each student’s individual needs and goals so they can develop as complete and versatile musicians. Students develop technical, aural, rhythmic, and reading skills, and they are encouraged to analyze, interpret, compose, and sight-read. For more advanced students, Sasensky School of Piano focuses on musical clarity and power, technical facility, the production of a wide range of beautiful sounds, and an understanding of musical structure. All students are introduced to the traditions and styles that influenced different composers. Teachers also focus on the links between music, philosophy, and art so that students learn to feel the hidden meanings and suggestiveness of music. The students are then more able to merge these ideas with their personal interpretation so that they delve into the heart of the music they are playing.

Ms Shashi was recommended to me by a friend whose kids were learning to play the piano by her. My son Jd, had never played a musical instrument before & the progress he made during such a short time with Shashi as a teacher far exceeded any expectations. Ms Shashi’s enthusiasm, love of playing the piano and her teaching skills is the reason Jd enjoys going week after week for classes. Shashi’s positive approach to teaching was evident when Covid disrupted physical lessons and she immediately started online classes, marking work online and even having games and recitals to keep the kids motivated in such trying times. She is also very proud of each and every student which was evident during recitals. Shashi sets high standards and expectations that she makes clear to her students which has driven my son to do better. We are so grateful to Shashi for her commitment and highly recommend her as a music teacher for any child who wishes to learn piano.

My daughter has been attending the Sasensky School of Piano for the last 4 years. Shashi and her team of teachers have done very well with teaching the basics of music in both practical and theory throughout the years and I have noticed a remarkable improvement in my daughters musical skill and knowledge. The classes have been effectively sized in order to provide proper attention to each child and their teaching techniques are strong, kind and yet firm to ensure the children get the best out of their time spent in class and also practice time at home. While physical classes have worked remarkably well, the Sasensky School of Piano also took on the added challenge in 2020 to quickly adapt to the new way of working considering the safety of the children. The classes were swiftly moved to an online platform and the children were kept engaged to learn even during these difficult times. The year was topped off by an amazing virtual concert which encouraged children to not only showcase their skills with the Piano but also other musical talents. It’s been a little over a year since my daughter joined Sasensky School of Piano & she loves attending the class every day without missing a single lesson because of your love, kindness, patience, politeness, pleasantness & the list goes on. Understanding the situation Ms. Shashikala managed to conduct classes maintaining safety & was able to channel these little minds to a happy, fun & an interactive place. A friend introduced me to Sasensky School of Piano few years ago, when my daughter was taking the initial steps of her musical journey. Like any other beginner, she had her ups and downs, success as well as disappointment. Sometimes when she thought of giving up, I felt that the gentle encouragement of Sashi was instrumental in getting her back on track. Today, she is extremely enthusiastic about music and confident in her own ability. When all activities came to a stop due to COVID-19, Shashi and the Sasensky School of Piano was there with the kids adding variety to their monotonous life. While preparing for exams online, there were so many activities organized like quizzes and recitals and the ‘virtual recital 2020’ the climax of the events.
